Ancestral Puebloan Ruins
Ancestral Puebloan peoples lived across the northern areas of the Southwest beginning about 7,000 years ago with the beginnings of maize cultivation, until about 1540 AD, with the advent of the Spanish explorers. Many of the ruins from their civilizations can be found at Chaco Culture NHP, Aztec Ruins NM, Hovenweep NM, and Wupatki NM. Created by Northern Arizona University students, Jackie Philleo, Samantha Schutter, and Diandra Markgraf, the documentary, Preservation Perserverance, examines the challenges in preserving ancient ruins for future generations. Video edited by Ryan Gahris. Ruins of the Southwest presents a photo gallery of images taken at three parks: Chaco Canyon NM, Hovenweep NM and Aztec Ruins NM. Photos by Kate Durrell.
